My Future Family Ambassadors fly the flag for alternative family methods. Each year we have an ambassador who talks to the press and shares their experience.
2016 Ambassador | Sinitta
Starting a family should be the happiest time for any parent but I know from personal experience how challenging it can be especially for those who find it hard to conceive naturally.
I explored many options to starting a family, including surrogacy, before deciding to adopt both of my wonderful children. It was tough for me ten years ago but battling through the various ways of having a child still remains a struggle for many because there simply still isn’t enough support or information available. This needs to change and is why I am proud be supporting the Alternative Parenting Show because the initiative helps to open the door to would-be parents by providing expert advice on the options available to them.
The Alternative Parenting Show is vital to giving people hope of starting a family whether that is through surrogacy, IVF, adoption or fostering. There are some great people out there ready to be parents; Alternative Parenting Week is ready to help them.
2015 Ambassador | Heather Peace
Heather Peace is best known for starring in television dramas, such as Waterloo Road, Lip Service and London’s Burning, as well as playing in sold-out solo tours with her band.
The actress and musician and her wife, Ellie Peace, welcomed their baby girl, Annie Mary Peace, into the world this April, saying they were on cloud nine and that she knows times are changing [for same-sex parents] because they’ve only received positive comments.
2013 Ambassador | Sophie Ward
Sophie Ward is an actor and writer from North London. She has worked in film, television and theatre and writes a regular column for g3 magazine. In 1996, Sophie met her partner Rena, and they came out as a couple. Together, they raised Sophie’s two children from her previous marriage, who were 3 and 7 years old at the time. As a family, they faced the particular challenges, as well as the advantages, of being an alternative family in a small rural community. Sophie is currently studying for her PhD at Goldsmiths and is touring in Agatha Christie’s play, Go back For Murder. | Read Sophie in The Guardian here
