Are you a lesbian or gay parent? Would you and your offspring like to enjoy a day out with other LGBT-parent families? The first of a new series of events – Out with the Family – takes place in September.
Gay parenting is growing in popularity, with more and more gay men and women – both singles and couples – exploring the different routes toward parenthood. Organised by Square Peg Media (publishers of Out In The City and g3 magazines), the annual Alternative Parenting Show grows in popularity every year. Now, Square Peg is launching another event – this time aimed at fulfilling a desire that many gay families have: to mix and mingle with other such families.
Out with the Family will be a quarterly series of events, bringing together LGBT families to provide a safe, supportive environment for children of gay parents to interact, play and realise they are not alone.
The first event will be held at the world famous ZSL London Zoo on Sunday 15 September. The event will feature a family barbeque, children’s entertainment and a tour of the zoo with hosts Charlie Condou and Sophie Ward.
“Even though the baby boom for LGBT parents is continuing, some gay families can feel isolated, don’t have a good support network around them and often find it hard to meet people who are sharing similar experiences,” says Charlie. “That is why it is important for events like Out with the Family to take place.”
“There will be people on hand to offer advice and support, but above all, it is an opportunity for LGBT parents and their children to have fun in an open, non- judgemental and friendly environment.”
“Bringing up children is one of life’s most rewarding and challenging jobs,” adds Sophie. “It can be even more challenging for parents who happen to be gay.
“I am pleased to be hosting the Out with the Family event at London Zoo. I’ll be sharing my own experiences as a gay parent and hope that I might be able to offer some support to other gay people who have the joy of raising children.”
One of the world’s most popular and widely-respected institutions, ZSL London Zoo, has been educating and amazing visitors since it opened in 1828.
