So you’ve decided you’re ready to have a child but you have no idea where to start. You’ve heard how some people make arrangements with male friends to get pregnant and of course everyone mentions the turkey baster. But, this is an important decision and you think it deserves more attention. Where do you start?
Well, that really depends on what kind of family you want to have. You might feel that two parents is easy, but three parents – you, your partner and a known sperm donor, might be more complicated. If that’s the case perhaps you want an anonymous donor. Either way, you will want to know about the health status of your known or unknown sperm donor and establish what his rights are as the biological father.
You could read a dozen books, hundreds of news articles and even have a degree in biology but you would still have questions that need to be answered, by a doctor. That’s the thing about starting a family, there is no manual because no two families are ever the same.
London Women’s Clinic appreciate your circumstances are unique and that you will have your own concerns, fears, requirements and needs. That’s why they created their ‘Inseminars’; these special events held every month are a great chance to learn more about treatment using donor sperm. The sessions will guide you through how to pick a sperm donor, your fertility and therefore your various treatment options using donor sperm such as donor insemination, IVF, egg-sharing and egg donation. The legal implications and how to support yourself through treatment are also matters that get discussed.
On the 18th and 19th of March The London Women’s Clinic are having an extra special event called the Harley Street Fertility Fair with events and seminars taking place at multiple sites around London. You will be able to hear experts speak about ‘Treatment with Donor Sperm’, ‘Testing your fertility’, ‘Egg Freezing’, ‘Supporting yourself through treatment’, ‘Treatment for women over 40’. ‘Genetic testing’ and ‘IVF Lite’. Over the whole weekend staff, clinicians, doctors and consultants will all be available to answer the myriad of question you will have.
If you are thinking of starting a family then maybe consider giving your new family the best possible start by visiting the Harley street Fertility Fair this March.
